Chasing Light 2014

Wednesday, December 31, 2014
It's funny how hotel rooms and living on the road can feel so much like home.  One of the things I love most about doing this post every year is getting to rediscover all those little moments that memory and time have washed away - seeing those images is like getting to be there all over again.

I'm truly honored to be able to do this job.  To create a tangible memory from a moment is seriously one of my greatest joys in this world. I've spent quiet moments with a bride before she puts on her dress.  I've seen grooms pace nervously awaiting their entrance cue from the minister.   I've watched grandparents gently take the hand of their newborn grandson while the new parents consciously adjust they way they hold their child.  I am truly humbled to witness life's littlest moments and greatest celebrations and to record them for our collective memory.

My camera has taken me across this country, up mountains to fields dotted with spring wildflowers, across great and rolling plains - I've photographed animals, roaming wild and free. I've slept under the stars and marveled at the majesty of the Milky Way.  I've had peanut butter sandwiches and Red Bull for days on end.  Rest stops feel like a hug from a long-lost friend and my little camp stove my salvation.   I have savored the fear of the unknown, I have watched my wife blossom into an avid adventurer and all along the way, my camera has been with me, drawing me ever onward, chasing light.
