I remember wondering as we drove out to the lodge if the
weather would hold off. The whole ride
out to Geneva-on-the-Lake brought a scattering of raindrops, though nothing too
severe. Truth be told, skies on the
verge of rain make for the most incredible black and white images you could
ever hope for and I’m a total sucker for romantic black and white portraits.
Chrissy and Tony are two of the kindest souls. Spend any amount of time around them and you
can tell instantly that they are most content simply being together - they have
found what matters most in each other and it’s heart-warming to watch.
I always love when couples exchange gifts on their wedding
day. There is something truly special about it.
It is the purest way of seeing into their love for each other especially
since a little love letter always accompanies those gifts. Writing a hand-written love note, putting the
pining of your heart onto paper, is perhaps, the most romantic thing one could
do. It is a tangible expression of feeling
that will endure long beyond its declaration.
Watching them silently read the words, seeing how their expression
changes; you can see the echo of those words in the recipient’s heart. Very
rarely are those words read aloud but when they are, usually everyone’s eyes
swell with tears, including my own. I
think that is what I’ll most cherish from Chrissy and Tony’s wedding – being able
to witness such a pure expression of their love.
And while grey skies make most brides anxious, the weather
as it turns out, really didn’t matter at all.
Chrissy and Tony married their best friend and celebrated that love surrounded
by a sea of their family and friends. Oh,
and I got to make my romantic black and white portrait.
