They stood on the edge of a small lake. They were on an island really. Separated from the mainland by a small little
channel and connected by two bridges. All around them, flowers bloomed, creating a
gentle carpet of vibrant fall color that defied the looming grey skies. A few of us checked the forecast on cell
phones, hoping to dodge the brightly colored radar mass that was steadily
moving in our direction indicating rain.
As of the last update, it was squarely over Cleveland and making its way due east. The
brightly colored mass was timing itself perfectly to the start of Cassie and
Alex’s outdoor wedding.
The ceremony began, and so did the gentle drops of rain. The
delicate sounds of rain hitting the lake behind me paired perfectly with the sight
of Cassie riding up the worn gravel road in a horse-drawn carriage. It felt like I was photographing a wedding
in the English country-side. Guests
began adding their own colorful patch work to the scene as they opened
umbrellas to ward of the approaching weather.
The rain increased, but no one seemed to mind.
There they stood, on the edge of a small lake, pledging
their love in handwritten vows to one another. The cascading drops of rain
washed the land in stillness as Cassie and Alex said “I do” in clear voices and
warm smiles. In the middle of a rain
storm, Cassie and Alex became husband and wife and it was one of the most
romantic things I’d ever seen.
