Recently I had the opportunity to photograph these beautiful hand-made Spanish veils for The Mantilla Company.  Inside an old factory, a wall of windows let in the most amazing light and the slowly decaying space was the perfect contrast to the soft and delicate beauty of these hand-made wedding veils.

Megan & Jeremy {Engagement Session}

Snow had fallen fairly heavily upon the ground and a deep winter freeze was just around the corner.  Around us, the forest was still and silent, punctuated only by the sounds of our laughter.  Whenever I get the chance to combine my love of nature with my love of photography, it’s a good day.  Whenever I can combine that love and photograph a couple that is as much fun as Megan and Jeremy, it’s a great day.

We hiked to a frozen waterfall, made use of an old barn (I had been dying to shoot there) and had a snowball fight in a field.  No matter where I put these two, one thing was certain; their deep and abundant love for each other was shared with the world through a laugh and smile.

Chasing Light 2013

You learn a lot about yourself when you drive across the country.  For starters, I learned that I need no more living space then the backseat of a jeep.  Armed with a sketchy GPS that got us lost, we headed west in search of our own personal odyssey.  Like mythological heroes that came before us, we set out into the great unknown with a pack full of clothes, way too much photography gear, and a greater sense of purpose than I had ever known.

2013 was a year of personal triumph, heartache, mind numbing scenery, and most importantly, growth. As is now my annual tradition upon the changing of the years, I'd like to share with you all some of my favorite photographic moments from 2013.  Some are amazing photos, and some are amazingly personal, but all represent my deeply rooted desire to capture life as it happens.
